If you couldn’t tell from the title The Legend of Korra is the follow up from the hit cartoon series Legend of Aang or Avatar Legend of Aang which ever you prefer. Avatar Legend of Aang was and still is one of the best cartoons to hit TV screens in years. The series had great characters, impressive storyline, humour and some truly great fight scenes. The only problem with the series is that it had to end and left fans wanting more. Well The Legend of Korra sets to answer everyone’s prayers and once again prove why the avatar will kick every other cartoon TV series ass.

Korra the new Avatar
The Legend of Korra is set a good 70 years after the events of the previous avatar series. Aang (the previous Avatar) has passed away, but not before creating Republic City after defeating fire lord Ozai with the help of his long time rival and friend prince/fire lord Zuko. When the avatar passes away the cycle continues and a new avatar is born enter Korra. From the beginning of the first episode it is apparent that Korra’s adventure is set to be very different from Aangs adventure. You see Aang travelled the globe with his friends searching for masters who could teach him the other three elements he needs to master in order to bring peace to the world, which would eventually lead him to his showdown with fire lord Ozai. Korra on the other hand has already master from a young age three of the four elements she needs to master. On top of this Republic City is the main focus of the series, which means travelling the globe is not on the agenda for this second series. This to me is great as it avoids repetition of the previous series and also represents the fact the things have changed and moved forward in the world of the Avatar.

Transportation in Republic City
Republic City
At first I thought it would be quite weird seeing an actual city with tall buildings and cars in the world of the Avatar, but after watching the first two episodes it fits in very well with korra’s adventure and as mentioned before it represents time has move forward. During the first two episodes Korra finds it difficult getting use to city life as she soon finds that city life is very different to life outside the city. On top of that it’s the same for us viewers, those of us that are familiar with the previous series. Simply because we have never seen a city setting like this before in the world of the avatar, so as Korra gets use to this city setting the long time viewers will too. Korra’s fierce and energetic personality makes it difficult for her to learn air bending which is understandable since air is the most opposite element to her personality. It’s not just air bending, and getting use to city life that Korra has to deal with we soon learn that Republic City has a dark side to it also and peace doesn’t rain throughout the city as this is where the main antagonist of the series enter known as the Eqaulists who are led by Amon. The Eqaulists are simply “anti benders” an organization set up to oppose the art of bending. On the outside the Eqaulists may seem to be a group fighting for some kind of justice but under the hood they are simply out to eradicate benders and anyone else that opposes them.

The animation quality and overall level of production is absolutely fantastic and I hope it continues throughout the series. From the very first fight scene of the first episode to seeing Republic City for the first time all in glorious 720p I couldn’t help but wonder if I was watching an animated film or TV series. It is very evident that a lot of effort has gone into the animation even down to the facial expressions on characters faces. To see this level of production from a TV series doesn’t happen so often.

The legend of Korra has had a great start and I hope the series continues strong just like its predecessor. In my next blog update I’ll continue with the Legend of Korra and more about its characters. In meantime in can also check out my YouTube video on Legend of Korra along with some beginners Street Fighter X Tekken gameplay.

Meh!!! Bio about me what’s to know I’m a pure anime and gaming junkie nothing else matters. Never before have I ever written a gaming article, so this is pretty much a first time experience for me, so don’t blame me if things don’t turn out so good. “The Game is On” all though I’m only ever playing for fun. My favourite game genre is RPG but also enjoy First/Third person shooters, Hack and Slash and the occasional Beat ‘em up. Meh!!!
